Mac Miller's 'S.D.S.' Single Arrives Before Midnight Release

Mac Miller is getting ready to turn up the volume on his upcoming Watching Movies with the Sound Off LP. The Pittsburgh rapper planned to unveil the album's first single "S.D.S. (Somebody Do Something)" at midnight on Tuesday, but the song found its way onto the Internet a few hours early on Monday (April 22).
The track, which is produced by Flying Lotus, finds Miller spewing free-associative and witty rhymes delivered with a tightly packed, multi-syllabic flow. "Close my eyes before I cross the street/ A car about to hit me then he oughta beep/ Watchin' 'Dawson's Creek' until I fall asleep/ It's harder than it seems, I'm underwater in my dreams," he raps, barely taking a breath.
Since dropping his #1 debut album Blue Slide Park in 2011, Mac has gone on to release his Macadelic mixtape as well as jazz-influenced five-song EP You. He also starred in his own MTV2 show "Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family." Even with all that he has going on it is the release of Movies that has the rapper most excited. "i have been killing myself with anticipation, waiting to give this to you all. after 9 LONG ass months. it's finally time to get started," he tweeted. " this sh-- is so crazy, you finally get to start hearing what i've been doing to those whole really love this music i do, and not only a certain style, i appreciate you more than you know, and you are in for a treat."

Two years after dropping her unstoppable sophomore album, the singer finds herself up for a handful of awards at the May 19 broadcast, including Top Billboard 200 album. Swift's Red, Mumford & Sons' Babel and One Direction's two 2012 album releases Take Me Home and Up All Night are all vying for that prize as well.

Adele will face off against more high-rollers in the Top Pop Album category. Maroon 5's Overexposed, 1D's two albums once again and Justin Bieber's Believe are all hoping to win.
Maroon 5 are up against Swift in the Top Artist prize against the likes of 1D, Rihanna and Bieber. Among Fun.'s many nods are Top Hot 100 Song for "Some Nights," Top Duo/Group and Top Hot 100 Artist.
With Fun., Swift and Maroon 5 going into the show the night's big nominees, other big contenders include Rihanna, who notched 10 nods, Juno Awards winner Carly Rae Jepsen with 9 and 1D with 8 nominations. One Direction will try and snag the Top New Artist prize from Gotye, Jepsen, The Lumineers and Psy.

Thirty Seconds To Mars Unveil Epic 'Up In The Air' Short Film

At this point, we are all aware that Thirty Seconds To Mars don't make music videos — they make short films. So when the band began releasing teaser trailers for their latest foray into film, "Up In The Air," well, visions of another epic, long player on par with their 13-minute "Hurricane" mini movie began dancing in everyone's head.

Especially since said teasers featured burlesque dancers riding mechanical bulls, Olympic gymnasts, roaring lions, snarling wolves, world-famous artists, models, actors, authors and more partially-clad dancers than a Las Vegas revue (there was also an actual Las Vegas revue involved, for those keeping score at home).
Well, on Friday (April 19), after weeks of furious editing, Mars finally unveiled the short film for "Up in the Air," and let the record state that, while it is most certainly epic, it also clocks in at a manageable eight-and-a-half minutes — and two of those are the ending credits. And given the bombast with which Jared Leto normally operates, that basically makes it his contribution to the 1 Second Film project.

Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y Give Live In Concert A Smoking 4/20 Release Day

Rap's Cheech and Chong are ready for a reunion. Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y hopped online on Wednesday and announced that their long-awaited, collaborative project Live in Concert will be released for free online on April 20, the unofficial stoner holiday.
"We've been talking about Live in Concert for a year now," Curren$y said while on a live YouTube stream. The tape that was originally supposed to drop on August 9, 2012, but has been delayed due to sample clearance issues. "There were some hurdles, a little red tape we had to cut through in the music business that happens to keep us from getting sued."
Curren$y 'Always Wanted To Work With Pharrell'
Staying true to form, the duo, who released their first collabo tape How Fly in 2009, smoked weed throughout the 16-minute broadcast and even treated fans to a tag-team rendition of Max B's "Porno Music."
After their expletive-filled rap, Spitta joked about losing sponsorship dollars, an obvious poke at the Rick Ross losing his Reebok deal. "I'm probably gonna lose my Sea World endorsement. I just signed a $20 million deal with them," he said in jest.
Last July, Curren$y visited "RapFix Live" and told show host Sway Calloway that the seven-song project was completed over the course of two days and they got as creative as they wanted to be.
"When me and [Wiz] work, there is never a structure to it," he said. "So, some stuff might be 11 minutes, some songs might be 30 seconds. But in that 30 seconds, you would've got like two hours' worth of game."

Psy's 'Gentleman' Nears 125 Million Views, But Can It Match 'Gangnam Style'?

Can lightning strike twice? We may soon find out thanks to Psy's new song, "Gentleman."
While the South Korean rapper's original world-beating hit, "Gangnam Style"
had a slow, then meteoric rise to YouTube dominance
last year on its way to an unprecedented 1.5 billion views, in its first five days "Gentleman"
is actually outpacing "Style" by a mile. (It took "Gangnam" more than a month to reach 100 million views.)
At press time, "Gentleman" was about to blow by the 125 million mark in YouTube views after tallying more than 20 million in its first 24 hours, easily beating the previous record set by Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," which attracted eight million views on its first day.
"51 million views in 40 hours!! My God!!" Psy tweeted on Monday as the video began to take off. The song has also made its way into the top 10 in England and Australia, though it sat just outside the top 10 at #11 on the iTunes chart at press time.
But can it move the 4.5 million downloads and #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart put up by "Gangnam?"
"He set the bar pretty high to match the success of 'Gangnam Style,'" said Billboard Director of Charts Silvio Pietroluongo. "That song had so many elements going for it: it was catchy, it had a spectacular video, the novelty of being in Korean ... it was like lightning in a bottle ... To get close tot hat would be considered a success. Even a fraction of those numbers would be a success."
While "Gentleman" is catchy, it doesn't quite have the novelty aspect of "Gangnam" and Pietroluongo said it's a bit early to tell if radio will mobilize behind it, or if pop stations will be receptive to another song sung in Korean.
He said radio programmers were slow to catch the "Style" tail, with most beginning to spin the song well after it had already reached serious viral impact. But this time, with the help of a label and the backing of Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, there is likely to be a stronger, more organized push to radio.
"We [satellite radio] were not slow to play that song," clarified Kid Kelly, Vice President of Music Programming at SiriusXM satellite radio and program director for the Sirius Hits 1 and 20 on 20 pop stations. "We don't follow, we lead and we've already started playing it and we're playing it heavily."
The 20 on 20 station has already put the song into heavy rotation at 50 times a week, meaning listeners will hear it every three or four hours and Kelly said it's slated to go into rotation 10-15 times a day on Sirius Hits 1 this weekend.
With video views and downloads now intertwined on the Hot 100 in a way they weren't when "Gangnam" was making its run — the song peaked at #2 on the chart last year before YouTube data was integrated — Pietroluongo said it's possible that thanks to the hearty YouTube numbers "Gentleman" might have a chance at matching or surpassing the "Gangnam" peak.
"Radio will play the song and we will know pretty quickly through research whether it's resonating with the audience," he said. The song will debut on the charts this week, but he said it won't be until next week that we will have a full seven days worth of data to gauge audience interest.
Kelly isn't waiting to see what happens before making his prediction. "I believe this artist has his own audience, period," he said. "He may or may not be a flash-in-the-pan, but with the audience he's cultivated it wouldn't have 120 million hits in a week without radio play if he didn't."
But is it really possible for "Gentleman" to strike the same pay dirt? "In the 'Art of War' you never underestimate your opponent," Kelly said. "Anything is possible. Yeah, I believe that it could surpass 'Gangnam Style.' I don't know that it will, but it could."
Do you think "Gentleman" will be as big a hit as "Gangnam Style?" Let us know in comments below!

Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky:' Dated Disco, Or A Bold Reinvention Of Dance Music?

When you're dealing with Daft Punk, "obscene expectations" are the norm. Witness the weeklong lead-up to the premiere of their brand-new single "Get Lucky," which was filled with teasers and trailers, fits and false-starts, purported leaks and near-psychotic over-analysis. It's basically become par for the course; after all, it's been more than 8 years since the dynamic duo released their last proper studio album (unless you count 2012's soundtrack to "Tron: Legacy,") and nearly five since they began work on their much-anticipated Random Access Memories album. Simply put, they're the kind of act that practically lend themselves to obsession, to the point where being a Daft Punk fan is a full-time endeavor.

Will Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" be the song of the summer?
Reviews in the UK newspaper The Guardian and the Washington Post were both complimentary, though both echoed a sentiment being expressed by many a Daft Punk fan today: namely, that "Get Lucky" sounds very little like anything in the duo's back catalog of club hits, with Guardian critic Michael Cragg writing the song "eschews the crunching electronics of their last album ... in favor of lithe funk grooves that seem to have been transported directly from an underlit '70s dancefloor."
"Yeah, it's good, but it's still the itty-bittiest bit disappointing, because it's so close to great," the Post's Chris Richards adds. "The duo's best music has felt entirely original. Adding a voice as familiar as Pharrell's to the mix cheapens the magic."
As for us, well, we love it, and we give Daft Punk credit for thumbing their (robo) noses at contemporary dance music, ditching any of EDM's whoosh-and-whomp to pay homage to the genre's true origins: house and disco. Working with a pioneer like Rodgers, they nod to the past, while adding Williams' to the mix points the song towards the future. It's the best of both worlds, really, and while "Get Lucky" may befuddle some, but you get the feeling that's the point, really. Shoot, maybe the kids might actually learn something.
But, did "Get Lucky" live up to the hype? Does it stray too far from Daft Punk's signature sound, or represent a bold new vision of dance music in 2013? Will club kids even listen? And what does all of this say about Random Access Memories? Well, we'd like to hear your thoughts in the comments below ... after all, we know you've been waiting a long time to let it all out.

Beats By Dre.Dre

Beats Electronics, LLC is a producer of audio products and equipment headquartered in Santa Monica, California. The company was founded by hip-hop producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young and Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine, and primarily produces products under the brand Beats by Dr. Dre.
Its products were manufactured under exclusive license by consumer electronics company Monster Cable since 2009. Beats has not renewed its five year contract with Monster, which ended late 2012. The company now manufactures all of its own products.

History

The company was founded in 2006, and debuted its first product Beats by Dr. Dre Studio headphones, in late 2008.
In August 2010, mobile phone manufacturer HTC acquired a 50.1% majority share in Beats for $309 million, before selling 25% back to the founders for $150 million, and remaining the largest shareholder with 25.1 percent,[3] in order to provide "flexibility for global expansion while maintaining HTC’s major stake and commercial exclusivity in mobile.] The purchase was intended to allow HTC to compete with other cellphone makers. The purchase also granted HTC exclusive rights to manufacture smartphones with Beats-branded audio systems. Despite its majority acquisition, HTC would still allow Beats to operate as an autonomous company. In July 2012, HTC sold back nearly half of its stake in the high-end headphone maker for $150 million. HTC said in an e-mailed statement that it would still be the largest outside shareholder in Beats after the share sale and the two companies would continue to work closely, including a joint global marketing campaign later that year. “HTC and Beats today announced a realignment of their business agreement that provides Beats with more flexibility for global expansion while maintaining HTC’s major stake and commercial exclusivity in mobile.........Under the terms of the agreement, the founding members of Beats will buy back 25 percent of its total shares for a total of approximately 75 percent ownership, with HTC remaining the largest outside shareholder with approximately 25 percent,” HTC said in the statement.
On January 12, 2012, BusinessWeek reported that Beats and Monster would not renew their production contract and would be ending their partnership by the end of 2012. Monster began to market its own line of headphone products at the start of the year, aiming towards an older demographic, women, and business professionals.
In March 2012, reports surfaced that Beats was planning to acquire the online music service MOG. The acquisition was officially confirmed on July 2, 2012, reported to have been between $10 to $16 million. Beats chose to acquire MOG due to its use of high quality streams for its music library—which supports Beats' aim to create "a truly end-to-end music experience." The acquisition did not include the company's blog and advertising network, the MOG Music Network, which was sold in a separate transaction to the radio and online media company Townsquare Media in August 2012.

Beats' original product line were Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. Beats Audio

Computers

Alongside Beats headphones, the company has also licensed the Beats brand, under the name Beats Audio, and technology to other manufacturers. In 2011, HP began to offer personal computers equipped with Beats Audio systems. The system features a software equalizer with a preset allegedly optimized for higher quality sound output. Originally reserved for its premium Envy line of laptops, HP now offers Beats Audio in nearly all of its laptops, all-in-one TouchSmart desktops, and tablets.

Vehicles

Beats also partnered with Chrysler, incorporating a 10-speaker Beats by Dr. Dre sound system in its 2012 Chrysler 300S luxury automobile. Since the Chrysler 300 debuted the collaboration, Chrysler has begun offering Beats Audio in other models, including the Dodge Charger and North American version of the Fiat 500.

Phones

Following its acquisition of a stake in Beats, HTC began to release smartphones with a Beats Audio equalizer, starting with the HTC Sensation XE/XL with Beats Audio in September 2011. Other new HTC phones, such as the HTC Incredible 4G, HTC Rezound, HTC One X, HTC Evo 4G LTE, HTC One V, HTC One S and HTC 8X also include Beats Audio.
